The Cats

The other residents of the home lab.

Pickles

on shift

pickles.service — active (running)

One of our current two boys.

Pickles and Juice came from Rad Cat Inc. in Fort Oglethorpe, GA — a TNR (trap-neuter-return) program that pulled them from a colony and put them up for adoption as a bonded pair. They’re never really apart, always within eyesight of each other.

Pickles is the smaller and more skittish of the two. He trills constantly as you approach, and loves leaning his whole body against you as he walks by.

Juice is the bigger of the two and a little more dominant, but he’s got a soft side — he loves getting scratches, strictly on his own terms.

Kitty

regular visitor

kitty.service — active (running)

An outdoor cat near Mount Olive — not officially ours, but a regular anyway.

Found behind a Mexican restaurant in Fultondale, AL, Kitty has been living outside my mom’s house in Mount Olive for the last 14 years. She’s tiny, but a fierce hunter.

Oliver

in memory

oliver.service — stopped (retired)

Our first cat. No longer with us, but very much part of the family.

Oliver was Kelly’s soul cat — she’d had him since he was 4 years old. Adopted in Huntsville, AL, he made the rounds with us to Birmingham and back to Huntsville, where we live now, before he crossed the rainbow bridge in 2025.

He couldn’t really meow. He’d try, but all that ever came out were these little silent screams.
